THERE is a real problem at the moment with dog fouling on the pavements outside Meadows First School, Bromsgrove, and I hope by raising it through your newspaper to get it stopped.
I take my daughter to school three mornings a week and have become fed up with having to constantly look at the floor when we are walking near to the school to avoid treading in the new pile of muck that has appeared overnight.
I find it totally unacceptable that the pet owner/s can allow their animal/s to foul the pavement outside a school where young children walk everyday and not clean it up. This is a real health and safety issue and should be taken seriously by everyone.
I have raised the problem with Bromsgrove District Council but it seems all that can be done is to report it so the street cleaning team can go out to clear the mess up. This unfortunately is not the answer to the problem.
I have also noticed the appearance of a sticker on one of the posts outside the school pointing out the penalty for not cleaning up after your pet. However, it is not that visible and will also not prove to be a suitable deterrent. I am not blaming the district council for this as the fault lies totally with the irresponsible pet owner/s who allow their dog/s to foul our footpaths which is why I believe the only way to stop this disgusting practice is to name and shame the pet owner's responsible and fine them the maximum penalty for the offence.
I hope anyone who knows the identity of the owner and pet to get in touch with the council so that we can be sure that the offenders will be punished.
