MEMBERS met at Manor Farm for the third match of the spring season where the Ash Pool proved tough going in the biting wind.

The conditions, though, didn't affect Ron Williams who took top spot with 15.7.0 to leave Jerry Akerman (7.5.0) and Bill Scarrott (3.2.0) in second and third places respectively. Mick Leeming was fourth with 0.6.0.

The next match is at Jim's Lake when the draw is scheduled for 8am.

WARMER temperatures have given Fly Fishers a chance to see fish feeding on a variety of hatching flies.

Successful flies used over the past week have varied from small olive and black buzzers, nymphs, baby doll, diawl bachs to the larger flies/lures such as montanas, damsels, tadpoles and cats whiskers.

Average three fish bags weighing 7lbs, with member Dermot Studdard catching a 3lb 12 oz specimen on an orange baby doll.

Spring Lake and Whitsun Lake water remains gin clear and officials are looking forward to the coming week for good hatches, providing active feeding fish resulting in challenging retrieves and excellent fishing.

Try small nymphs, buzzers with strong leader lines i.e.6lb, most fish weighing 2lb with larger ones up to 6lb Rainbows, Blues and Browns.

There's national competition action at the venue on Sunday in a Troutmasters Fish-Off.

The winner will join 200 others for the final in May.
