FIVE caring Droitwich Spa students are preparing for a globetrotting adventure that will see them offer help to people less fortunate than themselves.

The Droitwich Spa High School sixth formers plan to travel to Kenya for a month on July 20.

The group, which is made up of Rebecca Price, Mike Seeley, Paul Stevens and Dan Hughes, will help villagers in the small rural village of Makongeni.

The excursion costs £2,900 and includes accommodation, food and day trips in the country. During their time in Kenya the students will provide essential building supplies, help villagers with their work and also teach English to school children.

Camps International, an organisation that helps less privileged countries throughout the world, has made the trip possible. The group has bases in Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar. Students who have visited the bases in the past have helped build classrooms, provided community centres and built a football pitch.

Rebecca, one of the students from the Briar Mill school who is taking part in the trip, said: "We will go on a scuba diving excursion to explore and get a better understanding of Kenya's ocean life and plants. A safari is also included and we will be camping for the duration of the safari and will hopefully learn more about Kenya's fascinating wildlife.

"A large portion of the money will go towards essential building supplies, such as timber, tools and paint. While helping the community, we will also be working alongside local craftsmen."

To make the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity a reality the students also need sponsorship to help cover the cost.

Rebecca added: "It would be great if a company would be prepared to help towards the sponsorship needed." Anyone interested in sponsoring the student trip should contact the school on 01905 774421.
