ANOTHER gusty day greeted members of Evesham Sailing Club last Sunday when a mass start down to the weir tested all the crews who had a long course to negotiate over eight laps.
The British Moths filled the first placings on the first lap then, as the boats spread out, the Enterprise of Paul and Anne Baylis came into the reckoning and took what seemed to be an unbeatable lead.
Ian Haywood, in his Moth, was an early casualty but he recovered well from his capsize to find himself in second position.
Cruelly, half a lap from the finish, a vicious wind shift capsized the Baylis's to give Haywood victory followed by John Pickford, who narrowly beat Peter Green into second place.
The second race which saw Pickford and Stuart Bonham storm into an early lead, being chased hard by Green, Jeremy Higson, and Adam Styles.
The positions constantly cha-nged as the crews battled against both the gusty wind and the opposition, but it was Higson who mastered the conditions and pulled out a lead that saw him take his first and well-deserved victory.
Pickford and Green again tussled for second and third places with the former again just doing enough to see off his clubmate.
