MALVERN Town's first Midland Alliance game for a month saw them gain revenge for their league cup defeat by Alvechurch at Langland Stadium in November.

MALVERN TOWN 5, ALVECHURCH 0

Malvern could not have made a better start and within the first minute, Dean Roberts was wrestled to the ground in Town's first attack.

Darren Bullock stepped up and blasted the spot-kick beyond goalkeeper Rowe to open the scoring.

Two minutes later, a superb through-ball by Mark Shepherd split the visiting defence and Duncan Preedy raced through to fire low and hard past the keeper for 2-0.

Alvechurch battled hard to get back into the game and Bullock and Roberts were forced to clear efforts off the line.

Malvern gradually regained charge, with Whittington and Bullock commanding the midfield. A flowing move released Whittington but his shot was brilliantly saved by Rowe before another fine move saw Roberts set-up Shepherd with an inch-perfect ball. The striker coolly fired home, giving Rowe no chance.

Malvern continued to dominate the half with the strike pairing of Roberts and Shepherd giving the visiting defence a torrid time.

Williams replaced the injured Whittington at half-time but straight from the kick-off, Shepherd dribbled through the defence and fired home to stifle any thoughts of a Alvechurch come-back.

The visitors made three substitutions straight away but this had little effect on the Town defence, with Chalmers and Burrows in superb form.

Humphries, in the home goal, only had one anxious moment when he was called upon to tip a Hilton shot round the post.

Richard Tomkins completed the scoring after he and Clayton had worked well down the right. Tomkins was first to react to a Bullock free-kick and fired against the post but he was first to the rebound and slotted home.
