LAST Sunday, during the morning service of holy communion at St Peter's, two young children were baptised by The Rev Douglas Walker. Ethan Grant Thomas, aged one, of Drakes Broughton, whose grandparents live in Powick, was baptised; and also baby Luka Roberto, supported by his family. The lesson was read by Marion Lewis and the organ played by Sally Linsey.
Sunday is Mothering Sunday when the 11am service will include members of the Junior Church from St James', Callow End. Posies of flowers will also be distributed to mothers. Everyone is welcome, especially families, for this special occasion. Refreshments to follow.
On Monday (March 27) at 7.30pm a service of induction and welcome for the new vicar, The Rev Sue Irwin, will take place at St Peter's Church, Powick. The Bishop of Worcester, The Rt Rev. Dr Peter Selby will officiate. Refreshments will be served in the parish hall following the service.
Last Saturday morning, the church at Powick was open for morning coffee, cakes and various items were sold. In spite of the chilly weather lots of people supported the event, which raised £307 for church upkeep. Special thanks go to Thea Wild and her team of helpers.
The Friends of St Peter's are promoting a quiz to raise funds for the upkeep of the church and churchyard. Entry sheets at £2 are available from Marion and Peter Lewis at Powick or Peter Gedge at Callow End. The closing date is April 23. There will be prizes for the first three correct answers drawn.
Church members are invited to support the CMS (Church Mission Society) at a coffee morning on Saturday, April 1, at 25 Richmond Road, Malvern, from 10am to noon. Cards, cakes, preserves, books, raffle and bring and buy.

The annual general meeting of Powick Playing Field Association takes place on Monday, April 3, at Powick Parish Hall, at 7.30pm, in the community room. New members are urgently required to ensure the playing field continues as an important facility for the village and the community. The association's assets include a storeroom and equipment, a marquee, sports' facilities, children's play equipment, a tennis court and boules court. Without new membership the future effective management of the field cannot be guaranteed and the facilities may deteriorate. Have you purchased your tickets for the April Fools' dance on Saturday, April 1? Held at Powick Parish Hall, the event starts at 8pm and is organised jointly by the parish hall committee and playing field association. Live music will be provided by Swingtime with jazz and dance music. Tickets are £7 to include nibbles and candlelit tables. There will be a bar, plus usual raffle.
