ONE of Malvern's little secrets, Poets' Corner, tucked away high on the Wyche Cutting, needs a new home.

Described as a "delight" and a "real treasure" by those who have discovered it, Poets' Corner is a quiet spot where people can leave poems and read poetry left by others.

Poets' Corner is a rocky niche decorated with flowers just behind the Wyche Inn, a few yards from the pavement.

It has been there for around three years, but a dispute over the ownership of the land and the need to create an access path there means it will have to move.

"I was so sad when I heard this beautifully tended little spot would have to go. It's one of those special places that make Malvern so wonderful," said Lorraine Page, who discovered Poets' Corner while walking her dogs and now visits regularly.

She said it was looked after anonymously. Poems left in a box there are laminated and displayed and changed regularly, along with seasonal flowers and decorations.

Ian Rowat, director of Malvern Hills Conservators, said he had visited Poets' Corner a number of times and found it "delightful".

But he said he would not like to create an official, Conservators-run equivalent on the board's land.

"Part of its charm is that it's unofficial," he said. "If it was official, it could open us up to liabilities if someone left a libellous poem there."
