TWO teams battled through to the final of the Worcestershire West School Sport Partnership tag rugby festival at Spring Lane on Friday but could not then be separated.
After a terrific day of rugby, the two finalists were Somers Park Primary School and Eldersfield Lawn CE Primary School.
The teams played a closely fought game that went to extra-time. After extra-time, with the score still level at three tries each, the decision was made to share the trophy and the two teams were crowned joint champions.
The mixed tag rugby festival involved 26 teams and 18 primary schools. It was jointly organised by Worcester-shire West School Sport Partnership and Malvern Hills District Council with support from Malvern Rugby RFC. The children involved were boys and girls aged nine to 11.
Organiser Matt Meckin said: "This has been a fantastic opportunity for children across the partnership to come together to experience a fun but competitive festival of tag rugby. The event has really promoted participation with over 250 children involved throughout the day. England international rugby star Susie Appleby gave the event a huge boost and she certainly sent the children away with some inspirational messages."
Appleby has 62 international caps and is a European and Six Nations winner. She also has runners-up medals from two World Cups.
