WITH only two weeks of the Brewin Dolphin Malvern Table Tennis League season left, the position in division three is very interesting.
The top two teams, Manor Park Maulers and Crackpots B have three and two games respectively left to play and one will be between themselves.
Maulers look likely to win the top position but Crackpots could steal it from them if they got the full eight points from their last two matches. If Nomads, in third position, were to get maximum points from all their last four matches, it would guarantee a promotion place but they still have to play Abbeydowne and Hop Pickers, who are on equal points close behind them.
Against Maulers, Hoppickers were handicapped by having only two players and Nick Haggar won two and Adrian Haggar one for them. Ray Davies won two and the doubles with Don James, who won one, as did Bill Smith.
The Lieutenants were the unlucky team with only two players in the other match involving Hoppickers. Alasdair Maxwell-Stewart was playing extremely well beating both the Haggars and Geoff Fletcher and Tom James also picked up a singles win.
When Allsorts played Maulers, James Mulka and Alex Lindner both won a singles and earned a valuable point for their team. Don and Ray both won all their sets and the doubles for Maulers.
Nomads look by the scoreline of 10-0 to have had an easy win over Dynamos, but Collette James took Geoff Davies to four games and Rob Redden to five and Charlie Burford took both the Nomads players to a fourth game.
The Abbeydowne and X-Police match could have gone either way with a scoreline of 3-4 in X-Police's favour after the doubles. Alan Holmes beat Peter Denniss 10-12 in the fourth to clinch his team's second point and Ralph Cook, who won all his sets, then beat Roy Holland to win the third point.
RESULTS: Abbeydowne 4, X-Police 6; Poolbrook Lieutenants 4, Hop Pickers TT Club 6; Manor Park Allsorts 2, Manor Park Maulers 8; CSSC Nomads 10, Dukes Way Dynamos 0; Manor Park Maulers 7, Hop Pickers TT Club 3.
