A MAN is calling for his road to be made one-way after two of his parked vehicles were damaged outside his house in the past two weeks.
Mahmood Hussain said that since a £1m scheme by Severn Trent to replace old water and gas pipes and build an underground sewer started at the end of Wyld's Lane, more and more traffic has been using Victoria Avenue as a diversion route.
The avenue, which is off London Road, runs parallel to Wyld's Lane and Mr Hussain said as cars are parked on both sides of the road, it is difficult for drivers to be able to pass each other safely. Mr Mahmood said: "First a car reversed into the front of my Peugeot causing £1,200 damage to the bumper and lights."
"I was given a courtesy car while that one was being prepared, but someone then crashed into that too.
"The front wing was damaged, the paint scratched and the indicator light was also smashed."
Mr Mahmood also said that other residents in the street had reported similar problems to him.
"It is ridiculous," he added.
"We just want the street made one-way and it would stop all the problems.
"This work is scheduled to go on for months so who knows what else will happen," he said.
A Severn Trent spokesman said: "All of the diversionary routes have been agreed with Worcestershire Highways Authority and we are very much guided by their advice and expertise.
"While there has been talk of making Victoria Avenue a one-way street, we do not envisage that happening. If residents do feel that such action is the most appropriate way forward, then we would advise them to contact the highways authority with their views.
"We appreciate that the ongoing work in Wyld's Lane is an inconvenience to many residents, but we urge them to bear with us.
"Our workmen are ahead of schedule, and once the project is completed, people will be able to look forward to a more reliable supply of water with less leaks and less interruptions," added the spokesman.
