A LETHARGIC Powick dropped two points and put pressure on their chances of winning the Worcester Sunday League division one title.

POWICK 3, DROITWICH SPA RES 3

It was leaders Powick who started brightly, playing possession football. But they were caught when hesitancy allowed Droitwich to score with their first attack.

Powick continued to pass the ball around and despite creating numerous chances, they could not find the way through. Stu Harvey shot wide when well-placed and Phil Skilton narrowly missed the target following an excellent run.

With 15 minutes remaining of the half, a freak goal was scored by Mick Price, whose speculative long range strike sailed over the bemused keeper. The half was ended well when measured approach play saw Harvey pick out Ben Pearson, who stroked the ball confidently home.

Despite strong words from manager Mike Burton, Powick began the second-half poorly and were guilty of wasting chances and possession. A defensive lapse from Andy Collard almost let the visitors in but a fine tackle by Ollie Knight cleared the danger.

With 20 minutes left, the seemingly important third goal arrived when substitute Steve Hadley capped a pleasing display with a tidy finish at the far post.

With only five minutes remaining, two moments of poor collective defending by the team allowed two soft goals that resulted from long throws. The equalising goal hit the unaware Hadley in the very last minute of the game.

There was massive disappointment in the camp but with 17 wins in 20 games, Powick remain top of the league.
