A WOMAN inspired by her son's death to help others has been honoured for raising £500,000 for charity.
Barbara Ludwig, of Athelstan Road, Battenhall, Worcester, has collected the money for Cancer Research UK since the death of her son Stuart from a brain tumour 42 years ago.
She is a wonderful example of the sort of people we are highlighting in the Worcester News Pride In Worcestershire campaign.
Mrs Ludwig was one of just 28 people across the UK who received a Flame of Hope Award, and was made an Honorary Fellow of the charity, for her outstanding fund-raising efforts.
Mrs Ludwig - who also took part in an Honorary Fellow of the charity, for her outstanding fund-raising efforts.
Mrs Ludwig - who also took part in Cancer Research's Race For Life when she was 73 - said she was astonished to receive the award.
"I hadn't even heard of it," she said. "I am passionate about raising funds for Cancer Research UK and will continue doing so for as long as I can. I know that Stuart would be proud."
Mrs Ludwig is also the local honorary fund-raiser for the Worcester area, and has been a volunteer in the Cancer Research UK shop in The Cross, working four days a week for more than 15 years. She was nominated for the fellowship by Sue Medcalf, Cancer Research UK's community fund-raiser in Worcestershire.
Sue said: "Barbara has supported Cancer Research UK tirelessly over the years and regularly raises more than £20,000 every year.
