IT seems unfair to blame the County Council for the delay in implementing the disabled access at Evesham railway station. It is surely up to the train companies to provide access to their own services.

When the idea of opening up the access from the Old Pershore Road was suggested my first thought was that this might cost a thousand or two. When the estimate came in it was £50,000. Now we are told that it is an unbelievable £150,000. The culprits, of course, are our old friends Health and Safety. The regulations surrounding the provision of this sort of facility are now so complex that costs escalate beyond all reason.

I sometimes think that if this world comes to an end it will not be the result of a great atomic explosion, but because we have made life so complicated that people will just give up trying to do anything!
