EXPERIENCED batsmen Simon Froggatt has been given the challenge of leading Barnt Green's Birmingham and District League Premier Division title defence this season.
Froggatt has been a key player for the Cherry Hill Walk side for the last five years and replaces former Worcestershire and England all rounder Richard Illingworth, who has taken up first class umpiring full time, as the first team captain.
Froggatt will have a tough test in 2006 season, as Green set to emulate a glorious 2005 where they won the league and reached the finals of the Graham William Trophy and the National Knockout Cup.
Green begin their competitive campaign by playing Halesowen away in the GW Trophy's first round on Saturday, April 22. Green are the team to beat in the competition, winning it in 2003 and 2004 and making the finals in 2005.
l The club is holding a registration day for its junior section on Sunday, April 2 at Barnt Green between 11am and 3pm.
With its junior section nearly full the day is for mainly renewing memberships but there will be spaces available.
Reserve lists will be drawn up and newcomers will be invited when a space occurs. Only children in Year Three and above will be considered by the club.
The club has also had a two bay synthetic practice area installed, which was funded by the Community Club Development Fund. Barnt Green also has had a Flicx installed pitch on the Douglas Ground.
