A Labour town councillor has called for the mayor-making process to be brought into the open, claiming that the Conservative group is being greedy and selfish about the role.
He said that leading Tories in Droitwich will be holding a secret meeting this week, but would encounter dissent from within the council.
Rumours suggest that this year's deputy mayor, Cllr Kate Spencer, will not be taking up the position as normal. Cllr Peter Pinfield (Lab-Droitwich East) is calling for the role to be given to someone who has not taken up the position before. He has highlighted the fact that every other Conservative on the council has already been town mayor and in some cases more than once.
"The Tories are being greedy and selfish over the role of mayor - they are making it a political appointment from within their slender majority," he said. He is also calling for townsfolk to give their views on who should hold the position.
The decision on who will be the next town mayor is set to be made at a meeting on May 15.
