A NEW county dragon boat club's preparations are in full flow ahead of their first competitive race.
The Severn Warriors dragon boat team are set to take Cardiff by storm in the National League event on April 8.
The unlikely nautical link with rugby coincided when avid Worcester Warriors' supporters took to the water in a race last year at the Worcester Water Festival.
They won the charity trophy and the inspired victory consequently established the team's name as Severn Warriors and the club was formed.
Founder member Lyn Mellor said that it was from this success that they caught the bug and are now a team very keen to compete.
The enthusiastic team currently boasts 22 members, comprising of seasoned paddlers and devoted rugby supporters alike.
Severn Warriors have a clubhouse at Kempsey Mar-ina and meet on Sunday mornings for training.
Anyone interested in joining or sponsoring the club should contact Geoff Munson on 01905-724522.
