UPTON overcame windy conditions to get back to winning ways as they defeated Tenbury 29-6 at home in a North Mindlands Division One (South) encounter.
The hosts kicked-off against the wind, but immediately their forwards dominated up front.
Upton opened the scoring through Melvyn Hill after a catch and drive from a line-out 10 metres out.
Hooker Rob Heeley then doubled Upton's advantage but, as with the first try, Chris O'Neill could not add the extra points in difficult kicking conditions.
Although Upton prevented any tries being scored, they could not stop two successful long-range penalty kicks by John Lankey from making it 10-6.
With the wind behind them in the second-half, Upton were able to employ a more expansive game. From a good set scrum five metres out where the ball was taken against the head by Heeley, scrum-half Brad Raymond gathered and made a diagonal drive, stepping through two tackles to score near the posts. This time O'Neill's kick was successful to hand his side a 17-6 lead.
Tenbury tried to keep the ball tight, but Upton forced the errors and soon winger Richard Mills went on a run that ended with full-back Alex Pimlow scoring in the corner to stretch the lead to 22-6. Another exciting run from Pimlow allowed him to score under the posts. O'Neill converted once more for a 29-6 lead.
