FIREFIGHTERS are going to be scrubbing car bonnets and soaping car windscreens all in the name of charity.
Workers at Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service will attempt to raise money for a charity dedicated to helping fire workers killed or injured in action, and their families.
On Saturday, March 25, any cars entering McDonald's car park in Hylton Road, Worcester, will be able to have a clean-up - with all donations from car owners going to the Fire Service National Benevolent Fund.
The fund exists on charitable donations and awards money to former and current firefighters who have been hurt, as well as family of servicemen killed in action.
It also offers sheltered accommodation to families or dependants of firefighters, recuperative facilities and therapy. Up to 10 firefighters from the Greenwatch will be on the car park between 9.30am and 5.30pm.
"Some of us will be on duty, while we are hoping other firefighters on their days off will come along and help clean cars," said firefighter Rob Bear.
"All donations will go into this fund, so the firefighters of Worcester can receive help when they need it.
"It's going to be hard work scrubbing all the cars, but it's worth it. The last time we did something like this we raised £500-£700.
"One of the main aspects of the charity is to support the families of firefighters who die."
The charity car wash will also run on McDonald's car park in Hylton Road the following Saturday on April 1 between 9.30am and 5.30pm.
