THOUSANDS of people flocked to Worcester's Gheluvelt Park for an evening of entertainment.

The After Dark in the Park event saw fields of flowers created by children and giant lanterns decorate the park off Barbourne Road, Barbourne, as well as a display by circus performers.

An impressive firework display brought the event, on Sunday, to a close.

It was organised by the Friends of Gheluvelt Park, Worcester Arts Workshop and Worcester City Council.

Allen Barnatt, the Friends' chairman, said: "It was absolutely perfect. Around 3,000 people turned up. The weather was perfect and the sky was clear."

He said that the event was the first of five planned to take place throughout this year. They are being funded by a £3,900 grant from Awards For All.

Ian Wishart, of Droitwich Road, Worcester, described After Dark in the Park as a "great night".

He said: "There were so many people there - young and old. It was great to see events like this taking place in Worcester."
