Leon Blake's deep left-wing cross was misjudged by goalkeeper Richard Wilmott and Ball side-footed home.
Ball and Shane Benjamin missed further chances but they made the game safe nine minutes from time.
Steve Duncan and Danny Hodnett did the ball-winning in midfield and Blake moved forward to fire home.
