The production of My Fair Lady, as presented by Malvern Light Opera Society this week, is superb in every way from start to finish.
Eliza Doolittle (Alicia Bennett) and Professor Higgins (Mark Develin) head the cast.
Alicia develops Eliza's character and sings well, sustaining her cockney, then ladylike accents.
Mark is ideal in his role and uses his voice admirably. These two actors are perfect in their scenes together.
Fine singing is heard from all the supporting actors, with their words clearly enunciated.
A large chorus and an integrated group of dancers are choreographed, often in complex moves.
Scenery is managed successfully through numerous alterations, and costumes are changed frequently.
Among others, the scene at Ascot races is spectacularly dressed in black and white, and for the ballroom scene, complete with chandelier, the ladies wear lavish fashions.
My Fair Lady moves along at a good pace with many memorable songs.
Paul Bellamy is director and Sue Black musical director of this first class show, which continues until tomorrow (saturday).
