THE unforgettable theme tune to children's TV show Blue Peter is to be re-recorded with a young Malvern musician playing the cornet.
Charlotte Ellis was chosen from 25,000 youngsters to play with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra when it re-records Barnacle Bill at a residential course in Manchester.
12-year-old Charlotte said she would like to update the tune.
"It's a bit cheesy at moment so I'd like to maybe add some drums and a base guitar or something." she said.
Charlotte entered the competition online and was one of only 60 to get through to the next round of the competition, an audition in Cardiff.
She played a West Side Story song from memory as her audition piece and met musician Katherine Jenkins and Blue Peter presenters Zoe and Gethyn.
Charlotte, who attends Dyson Perrins High School, recently passed her Grade V cornet exam with distinction and is used to pressure. But she said the Blue Peter audition was nerve-racking, as there were cameras and producers everywhere.
Only five young musicians were selected to go on the residential course.
"I'm looking forward to going away, meeting the other children that got through and playing with the Philharmonic Orchestra," said Charlotte.
"I've heard them play before and thought wow, they're really good. But actually being able to play with them, well it's just amazing."
The cornet Charlotte plays is very special, as it was her father's 21st birthday present.
"Dad was speechless when he heard I got in," she said.
Her mother Shirley is also musical and the couple actually met playing in The Chase school band.
Mrs Ellis said: "I was ecstatic when I heard, we all were."
