THE new 12-metre long oak bridge in Worcester's Gheluvelt Park could be installed towards the end of this month.
However, it would not be open to the public until more work is carried out to the approach pathways.
Even so, Allen Barnatt, chairman of the Friends of Gheluvelt Park, is delighted that the bridge has been given approval by the city council. The footbridge will cross the brook in Ghel-uvelt Park, off Barbourne Road, Barbourne, near to the tennis courts and meet the existing path at the bottom of the slope. The design is the same as the smaller bridge installed near to the park's playground.
Mr Barnatt said: "The bridge will mean we will have one park instead of two.
"It will be a natural link between the new park extension and the old park.
"It just makes Gheluvelt Park a complete park."
Because the bridge is in one piece a crane will have to be used to lower it into place. A date for the installation has yet to be set.
