POWICK Primary School run out at Worcester's Sixways stadium tonight (Friday) just minutes away from a possible trip to Twickenham.

The mixed tag-rugby side from Powick are champions of south Worcestershire after emerging victorious against schools from Worcester, Malvern and Wychavon, culminating in a tense final against Malvern Parish.

They will face Aston Fields, who came out on top when 18 schools contested the north Worcestershire festival earlier this week.

It was all part of the Powergen National Community Tag Rugby Festival that has seen the Worcester Warriors community team complete a 13-week coaching programme at 36 schools across the county.

The eight-minute match is due to be played at 7.40pm, prior to the U21 Six Nations match between England and Ireland that could see England lift the championship.

The winners will represent Worcestershire at Twickenham during the half-time interval of the Powergen Cup final that sees Wasps play Llanelli Scarlets on April 9.

Powick headteacher Richard Drewett said: "It is a big day for them but they are a good little team and should do really well."

Matt Sherratt, from the Worcester Warriors community team, said: "There is little to choose between the two sides and it will be the team that holds their nerve on the night in front of a sell-out crowd."
