POWICK comfortably claimed the points against Pershore and took a step towards a top two finish in the Worcester League premier division.
PERSHORE MANOR 0, POWICK 4
The game started brightly for Powick who made good use of the slope. After only four minutes a pin point Dale Humphries corner found Dean Drinkwater who powered home a bullet header. This set the tempo for the rest of the game and Pershore found themselves under pressure.
Defensively Powick coped with the long ball of the home side and were moving the ball round well in midfield.
Man-of-the-match Pete Brannelly rarely gave the ball away and with the lion's share of possession came a large number of chances.
Jamie Badham was unlucky to see a fingertip save from the goalkeeper hit the wrong side of the post and a host of half chances went begging. Leading scorer Stu Harvey grabbed the second with ten minutes remaining when he latched onto a knockdown by Drinkwater and despatched the ball into the bottom corner.
The second-half continued with the same pattern to the play, though once again stubborn defending prevented the scoreline increasing. With 30 minutes left a well placed Drinkwater free-kick saw captain Lee Henderson drift past his markers and rifle a volley into the top corner.
Powick then survived a rare scare when a free-kick was not fully cleared and goalkeeper Steve Newman was called on to make an excellent point-blank save.
In the last five minutes Powick scored the fourth goal when Jamie Abba showed great composure to slot the ball home.
