POWICK crashed out of the Katherine Rayer cup against an Archdales side that play a league higher than them.
ARCHDALES 3, POWICK 2
After a bright opening period Powick found themselves a goal down when Archdales quickly broke from a corner and a striker outpaced the home defence to finish with style.
Powick responded well and began to move the ball quickly. Following half chances, a neat move between Stu Hart, Andy Collard and Stu Harvey saw the latter turn and shoot into the far corner of the net to bring Powick back on level terms.
Both Adam Soley and Lee Henderson had decent chances before Sam Green produced a moment of magic for the home side, drilling in from 25 yards. On the stroke of half-time the lead was further increased when sloppy marking allowed a striker to drift in unmarked at the back post.
Strong half-time words saw a more resilient Powick come out and once again numerous half chances were created. Collard hit the bar from a speculative 20 yard effort, Soley just failed to find the target with a header and a Ben Pearson cross caused havoc before eventually being cleared away.
Dean Drinkwater who had been an emergency goalkeeper came outfield to play his customary striker's roles and with 10 minutes left rifled home to put the home side under pressure.
Despite working hard until the final whistle it wasn't Powick's day and it was Archdales who progressed through this competitive encounter which was played in the right spirit.
