A GRIEVING mother incensed by what she described as "insensitivity" shown at a Kidderminster cemetery is delighted action has been taken to remove baby grave slabs she found upsetting.

The town resident, who wanted to remain anonymous, contacted the Shuttle/Times and News last month, with concerns the cemetery authorities were preparing for baby deaths by laying paving stones at the Park Lane site, months in advance.

The mother, whose baby son was stillborn last year, felt Wyre Forest District Council, which is responsible for the cemetery, was acting inappropriately.

The council has since removed the extra paving slabs - which indicated where graves would be - at the request of local residents.

The Kidderminster mother felt, however, the preparations had proved "pointless" and they would still need to disturb visitors, with machinery and the re-laying of the paving stones when a baby was buried in the future.

She said: "I'm very happy that they decided to remove the slabs but disappointed the cemetery had to lay them in the first place.

She added: "I just hope that, in future, they will think before doing something that seems very small to them but is hurtful to parents and families of the babies in that area of the cemetery."

Andrew Dickens, Wyre Forest District Council's head of cultural, commercial and leisure services said: "We listened to this resident's concerns and we're glad to be able to resolve the matter."
