Fairfield Villa 2, Littleton 1

LITTLETON'S interest in the President's Cup came to an end last Saturday when they went down 2-1.

On a wild and windy afternoon, the game was a bit of a lottery as the ball swirled and bounced all over the place.

Littleton had the advantage of the elements in the first half but were almost caught out in the first minute when Stuart Hall missed from close-range.

As the half wore on, the visitors began to exert pressure and went close on 20 minutes when a free-kick from Paul Jones found Phil Haines who shot just wide.

Matt Staley's pace was creating problems for the hosts and he brought a good save from their goalkeeper and then fired just wide when fed by Darren Reeves.

However, on the stroke of half-time, Fairfield took the lead when Kelvin Daley's drive from 20 yards flew into the top corner giving keeper Tom Heath no chance.

The second half saw the hosts dominant and Heath saw plenty of action in goal as Fairfield strove for the second goal that eventually arrived with a penalty ten minutes from time.

Littleton had a good period of late pressure and pulled a goal back on 87 minutes when Staley converted from close-range. It was, however, too little too late as Fairfield moved into the semi-finals.

Littleton are home to Burnt-wood in a Midland Combination first division clash on Saturday (2.45).
