A TEENAGE pool prodigy from Worcester is heading off to Great Yarmouth tomorrow to try and cement a place in the England Under 18 squad.
Scott Surridge, captain of the Worcestershire Under 18s team, has earned the right to try out for the national side by finishing joint second out of around 200 players in a regional qualifying event.
The top eight players from each regional qualifier go through to the England trials.
Sixteen-year-old Surridge saw off players from Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Buckinghamshire, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire -- as well as his Worcestershire team-mates -- to make the grade.
County colleagues Mark White and Dwayne Whitehouse also progressed through the regional event and will travel to the Vauxhall Holiday Park, Great Yarmouth, for the trials.
Surridge's father Shane, who is chairman of Worcestershire Pool Association, said: "Scott has a very good chance of qualifying. He is a very talented player.
"He has played a few national tournaments and is quite experienced for his age."
