A NORTHERN soul night to raise funds for Cancer Research UK proved so successful a second event has now been announced.
Organisers Julian Smith and Wayne Gormley have said the next would take place on June 10 - the same day as England's first World Cup game against Paraguay.
The first event, on Saturday, January 14, in University of Worcester's Student Union bar, was attended by up to 130 people and raised £600.
An additional £400 raised from people visiting Mr Smith's home in Malvern Road, Worcester, last Christmas, to see his lights as well as a £750 donation from Barclays Bank under its Pound for Pound scheme, which matches the money raised for charity up to a maximum of £750.
The total of £1,750 raised has now been handed over to Cancer Research UK.
Mr Smith and Mr Gormley decided to hold the event in aid of that charity because they have both lost their mothers to the disease.
Mr Smith, aged 43, said: "Everybody seemed to really enjoy the event in January and now we are hoping June's event will be bigger and better.
"I want to thank everyone who came to the January event and made it a success."
June's northern soul night will run from 7.45pm to 1am in the Student Union bar. Entry will be £5 on the door.
