MORE than 100 cancer patients living in the county of Worcestershire received financial help totalling £38,434 in 2005 thanks to Macmillan Cancer Relief.

Macmillan grants can help to cover expenses such as fuel or travel.

Rolf Millican, patient welfare manager at Macmillan Cancer Relief, said: "Pati-ents have told us that money worries are a huge problem for them.

"Often they lose their income and then have to face the extra costs of having cancer, such as travelling to hospital and paying for prescription charges.

"However, Macmillan provides immediate practical help for those on low or reduced incomes at what is a very stressful time."

Local fund-raising manager Jon Rayner said: "I am sure everyone in Worcester-shire who has supported Macmillan in 2005 - perhaps by holding a fund-raising event or even by putting some money in a collecting tin - will be pleased to know that their generosity means local people affected by cancer and their families have had real, practical help to lessen money worries."
