RESIDENTS in Wychavon will pay less than people in any other district in Worcestershire, with a rise of 2.5% for the seventh consecutive year.
The figure, now the tenth lowest in the country, was announced this week as Wychavon District Council voted for proposals in 2006-2007. The increase will mean a Band D property in the district, which currently pays £1187.65, will now pay £1,210.35 - a rise of £22.70.
Wychavon District Council's members voted to ratify the executive board proposals for 2006/2007.
The final bill will also include amounts required by Worcestershire County Council, Police, Fire Authority and town and parish councils.
The District Council is responsible for collecting the money on behalf of these other bodies but has already earmarked a host of priorities for the next year.
These include lobbying for a new hospital in Evesham and opening Pershore Hospital and health centre. A £1m investment will be made in housing and glass recycling offered to 94% of homes. Litter patrols will be stepped up and free bus passes will see over 60s travelling across Worcestershire for free.
