I MUST support the call by Steve Marshall (Journal, February 16) when he asks that Swan Lane/Mill Bank be made into two-way traffic.

Ever since Bridge Street was pedestrianised and Swan Lane/Mill Bank traffic reversed to come into town there have been problems, and complaints, about the congestion on the High Street. Apparently many years ago, before my time in the Vale, this was the case, and then in their wisdom the planners made the route one-way from town down to the junction with Bridge Street. After the reversal following the Bridge Street revamp we were promised a review, this does not appear to have occurred. Maybe now is the time, and quickly, and yes, try a two-way flow along the route, possibly with a weight restriction. I suspect that a large amount of traffic crossing Abbey Bridge turns left at the lights to come out to Bengeworth and beyond, on February 14 there was what appeared to be a traffic census taking place with people in fluorescent jackets positioned on every corner at the Abbey Road/Cheltenham Road/Waterside/Pershore Road traffic lights taking notes. I wonder if this did any good?
