FOUR Opinions gave Chaddesley Corbett trainer Patrick Kennedy his first winner with his very first runner at his local meeting on Saturday.THUNDER OF HOOVES:The main contenders go for broke in the Hewitt International Ladies Open Race.
His 10-year-old gelding proved too strong for his rivals during the closing stages of the Restricted at the Harkaway Club's seven race Point-to-Point meeting, which sadly saw relatively few punters brave the bitter weather.
Kennedy is a successful owner under jump rules and he is hoping that his Lord of Illusion will feature prominently in this season's Cheltenham Gold Cup and Grand National.
Four Opinions is the only horse in his stable and he declared later he knew the horse was well "because he had been kicking his box down."
The horse benefited from a positive ride by pilot Mikey Harris who timed his run to perfection when they took the lead from Master Jed between the final two fences.
John Groucott had enjoyed a good week. The Much Wenlock trainer had sent out two Hunter Chase winners plus First Love's victory in the 5, 6 and7 year old Maiden.
Willie the Kid looked to have this race sewn up after he took the lead at the 15th, but he weakened dramatically over the final three fences and Will Hill was rewarded for his perseverance when his mount hit the front approaching the last.
Steve Wynne and David Sherlock brought Fosse Park down from Cheshire to land a decisive victory in the Maiden. The winner had been placed in two Irish Point-to-Points last autumn and showed far too much determination for the runner up, Strolling, over the last three fences.
The Dudley Cup features on the future agenda for Members' race winner Saint Reverein, and after landing his seasonal hat-trick he will be hard to beat when that contest is run over this course in four weeks time.
