STOURPORT firsts kept their Midland Conference promotion push on track when Melissa Kenn-edy's goal sealed a hard-fought 1-0 victory at closest rivals Cannock.

The success leaves Holly Lashford's girls needing only five points to secure their elevation to the next level.

Stourport started brightly and adjusted quickly to Cannock's water-based pitch.

It was goalless at half time with neither side making the most of their short corner opportunities.

The breakthrough came on the hour mark when a flick in down the right saw player of the match Kerry Maughan find Kennedy who lifted the ball over the keeper.

Cannock pushed for the equaliser but were denied by in-form Isobel Rosie in goal.

Stourport go in search of three of the five points needed to secure promotion when they host Hinckley seconds at 2.30pm at The Kingway on Saturday.

Supporters are welcome, free of charge, to cheer on the ladies.

Stourport seconds slumped to their second successive defeat in the Worcestershire Division One with a 3-1 reverse at Bromsgrove firsts.

They trailed 3-0 at the break with Alex Totney restoring pride with a second half consolation after good work by Alison Baron.

The defeat could have been heavier but for Sarah Cranton's fine save from a penalty flick.

They visit Droitwich firsts at noon on Saturday.

Stourport thirds were 2-0 winners over Harborne fourths in Worcestershire Division Three with first-half strikes from Rosie Connolly and Cali Taylor.

All of the young players excelled themselves with Kathy Doyle scooping the player of the match award for her inspirational forward play.

The thirds play host to Worcester fourths at 11.30am on Saturday.

Stourport fourths had to settle for a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Cresconians seconds in Worcestershire Division Three.

Despite creating all of the chances, Stourport were reliant on a Jess Trundle equaliser after being denied by wasteful finishing and good goalkeeping.

In contrast, Cresconians took a first-half lead through a rare attack.

Jenni Peniket was the player-of-the-match for the fourths who travel to Ludlow at 1.30pm on Saturday.

Kidderminster came unstuck against leaders Evesham, losing 5-0 despite an impressive performance from captain Rebecca Weaver.

They were unable to penetrate the home defence and Evesham showed their championship credentials in a hard, fast match.

Kidderminster visit Harborne on Saturday.
