EVERGREEN Hanley Swan athlete Anna Bailey took another gold medal at the 25th World Indoor Rowing Championship, blitzing the Olympic regatta distance of 2,000 metres in seven minutes and 40 seconds.

Bailey, a multi-medal winner at British and World Championship level, dominated a high-class field of veteran athletes to take the gold medal.

Meanwhile, Pershore athlete Rob Buckley took a fine bronze medal at the championships.

Buckley, 50, raced to third spot in the 50-54 lightweight category in a time of six minutes and 49.4 seconds, less than a second away from the silver, which was taken by another British athlete, David Hislop (Stranraer).

Buckley was part of a 91-strong British team which came home with a tally of 19 World Championship medals.

The event -- celebrating its 25th year -- is one of the world's most unusual sporting occasions.

More than 2,500 athletes of all ages come together to compete in an event originally designed to test the competitiveness of rowers during the winter months in Boston when the River Charles freezes and prevents competition on the water.
