WE should not, nor should we want, to become complacent about the disposal of our waste.
Thankfully, we receive encouragement from our council in our endeavours to recycle, by the provision of wheelie bins and boxes. Why is it, then, that this encouragement stops short of providing enough bins for those with larger than average gardens?
I am told by our council that despite having a half acre garden, I must cope with the same one bin as the resident with a garden a fraction of the size.
Naturally, I offer to pay for my own bin because I do not expect preferential treatment (perish the thought). However, I am told that even if I had two green bins, only one would be emptied. What utter nonsense!
While those with larger families can have an extra grey bin, those with larger gardens must make do with only one.
I am further told that given the high number of requests for extra green bins, there is clearly a need, but as not enough people are putting their grievances in writing, nothing will change. Get those letters in. So much for Bromsgrove District Council meeting the needs of the environment.
