THE landlord of a Spa pub has vowed to stick to his guns despite receiving hate mail following a car-clamping row.

Duncan Edwards, manager of the Spring Meadow pub in Primsland Way, angered some Droitwich motorists last month when a clamping firm was called in after he became fed up with people parking on the pub's private car park without asking permission.

Some drivers returned to their cars on Thursday, February 2, to find them clamped or being towed away.

Following the incident motorists claimed they were not given warning and hit out at 'back-handed and sneaky tactics' from both the pub and the clamping firm.

One incident saw a motorist hit with a £228 fine after a towing vehicle was dispatched to remove their car.

Following the controversial move, which is still in place at the site, pub manager Mr Edwards received an insulting letter telling him to get out of the pub by March.

However, he said that he has been given the support of regulars and that the measure has not effected profits.

"The clamping will continue, but I am not doing anything wrong. I am not doing anything illegal and have the support of most people. The only people who are angry are those that got clamped."

He said that the hate mail has not effected his decision on the matter and that he passed it to police for them to investigate.

A Droitwich police spokesman said: "We have looked into this incident and the content of the letter, but are not considering it as an offence and are not pursuing it any further. We do not think it is a hate issue and consider it a malicious communication."
