A DROITWICH Spa band is setting out to capture the spirit of the nation during this year's World Cup.
Droitwich musician Philip Wood hopes he and his fellow members of Blind Granny's Taxi Nightmare can help England reach fever pitch during the World Cup by recording a special song for the occasion.
The track - Hi-Ho Come On England - is based on the ever-popular Hi-Ho Silver Lining by Jeff Beck.
Blind Granny's Taxi Nightmare are an unsigned town band which has been playing locally since 2002.
The five-piece want to lead Beckham and the boys to success in Germany while kick-starting their own musical career.
They are hoping to follow in the footsteps of football songs like Three Lions and Vindaloo which made it onto the terraces and into the nation's hearts during previous tournaments.
The band, which also includes Ian Saunders, John Jones, Andy Probyn and Dave Feeney, have already recorded their song and sent copies to major record labels in the hope of getting it released in time for the World Cup, which kicks off in June. Philip said: "We have been playing together for a while now and are friends that just started a band. We hope that some record labels in London will get back to us and we can release a special World Cup song. It would be great if that could happen. We are all football fans so would really enjoy the chance."
