UNTIL 12 months ago, I was a Redditch resident for 35 years. I now reside in Yeovil, Somerset.

The reason for my letter is I now realise just how much there is going for Redditch people when it comes to amenities and entertainment.

The truth is, there is not that much compared to Yeovil.

Redditch has a population of about 77,000 compared to Yeovil's 40,000, plus the surrounding villages that have vital links with Yeovil.

Yet Yeovil has a multiscreen cinema, bowling alley, variety of restaurants all in one vicinity, which happens to be in the town centre.

It is convenient for bus users and pedestrians and has adequate parking, which gives a refund for anyone utilising the above mentioned.

It also has its own ski ramp complex.

The towns have got some comparison with having a fitness suite, well-known fast food restaurants, plus the infamous Weatherspoons, Yates's and Chicago Rock.

What amazes me is there has been proposed planning of an entertainment complex in Redditch in the pipeline for goodness knows how long.

Last mentioned, it was to be placed, I feel, in a ridiculous location on the outskirts of town.

This would mean transport by car or bus and if by bus, then you'd have to get a bus into town and another to the complex.

How can this make sense, especially when the bus service is being limited and certain night services are being scrapped.

Why wasn't the area by the town hall developed for this complex?

Perhaps with less pubs, there would be less trouble.

I feel that the planning of the new town has not had serious consideration for its residents, especially the young.

What have they got on offer in the town apart from a shopping centre, fast food restaurants and pubs.

My nieces came to visit during half term and were amazed as to how much Yeovil has to offer.

So I reckon that instead of investing in more shops and pubs, get your act together Redditch Council - or whoever is responsible for development - and do something useful for your residents.
