SIR Digby Jones was the guest of honour at a Washford business.
The Director General of the Confederation of British Industry made a flying visit to compressed air unit manufacturers CompAir to see the latest in engineering design on Thursday.
While at the plant, he also saw the company's new vertical Hydrovane compressor.
He also met employee Joanna Campbell, one of the engineers instrumental in introducing the new designs, and invited her to an event in London later this year celebrating women in the workplace.
CompAir chief executive Nick Sanders said their guests had met staff on the factory floor, as well as designers and those involved in the spares and aftermarket department.
"He often notes in his speeches that the British are renowned for their skills in producing innovative design and engineering and no more so than here at CompAir," he said.
"Sir Digby was also interested in our current plans to reintroduce an apprentice scheme, which would see a return to a true focus on manufacture and engineering."
