I WAS impressed with many of the the letters in last week's issue (Advertiser, February 22).
Steve Mulvale's correspondence on the AIR Festival was the first to catch my eye. I can't agree the festival was "an unrivalled financial disaster" though.
What about the millions wasted on The Dome, the hundreds of millions squandered on the ludicrous Scottish Parliament and, more recently, the utterly pointless Welsh Assembly building? Give credit where it's due, Mr Mulvale.
He goes on to ask: "Did the White Star Line claim a success for getting all the passengers safely aboard the Titanic?''
Well, they probably did and quite rightly so. It was how they left the ship that left a little to be desired.
I was also very impressed by Tom Wareing's letter. Anyone who can manage to construct sentences consisting of 53 and 46 words respectively surely deserves our utmost respect.
In truth, I haven't got the faintest idea what Tom was banging on about but his final sentence caught my eye. He wrote: "As a builder and someone with a lifetime's experience of human resources development ... "
Whatever "experience of human resources development" means will forever remain a mystery to me but I may well be in the market for a good brickie shortly and will keep Tom's name in mind.
Finally, may I ask Councillor Juliet Brunner to leave poor Robin King alone?
Robin's "political" letters have been a source of hilarity and merriment to me for many years and I would be much saddened were he to stop writing.
