A GROUP of charitable children from Redditch were recognised for their efforts in a special ceremony.

The youths won awards during the first run of Worcestershire County Council's Tryangle scheme, which celebrates the efforts and achievements of young people.

Categories included bravery, personal achievement in the arts, music, sport or outdoor activity, good friends and carers, service to the community, citizenship and environment and personal development.

Daniel Crombie, from Matchbor-ough, scooped an award in the Citizenship and Environment category. The 15-year-old helps out with the Time4U health project at Arrow Vale Youth Centre, which offers help and advice to young people.

Meanwhile, Hollywood's Adam Shiels, 14, was commended for bravery. He has undergone two major brain operations but still attends Woodrush High School on a regular basis.

Members of the Woodrush Community Outreach Project were also recognised for their service to the community after spending their free time painting garages, picking litter and building benches.

County councillor Liz Eyre said: "The quality and scope was very impressive and really there are no losers."

And in a separate award scheme Kelly Burak, 12, was presented with the Youth Shield by Studley Parish Council for her work at the village's community youth club.

Council clerk Dot Mitchell said: "She has become a valuable member of the club giving freely of her time in helping the leaders run the tuck shop and is at present being taught stock control and spread sheets. She has been a real asset.

"The youth of this village are often given a 'bad press' so it is with pleasure that the council acknowledges the achievement of our young people."
