A NEW bridge is set to be constructed in Worcester's Gheluvelt Park as part of a Lottery-funded package of improvements after planners have given the green-light.
The wooden footbridge will cross over Barbourne Brook in the park, off Barbourne Road.
The idea is it would improve access from the old section of the park into the new section and the Pump House Environment Centre and River Severn.
Worcester City Council planners gave the scheme the go-ahead at a meeting.
The bridge will go from near to the tennis courts and meet the existing path at the bottom of the slope, with it expecting to take two months to construct.
Two new benches were installed in the park in December and the latest work is an integral part of the proposed environmental improvements for a Heritage Lottery Bid for the old part of the park.
A new paddling pool and metal railings to close off the park after dusk are some of the other proposals as part of the bid.
