A PROFESSIONAL golfer is offering free equipment checks in return for sponsoring him to run the London Marathon.

Graham Glenister, of Pinta Drive, Stourport-on-Severn, will put down his clubs and pick up his trainers when he takes part in the 26-mile challenge on Sunday, April 23.

To help him raise money for his chosen charity, Children with Leukaemia, the 38-year-old is offering to check players kit to make sure it is suited to their swing.

In return he is asking for a small sponsorship.

He said: "Top players have their equipment checked before every big game and you should get looked at once every six months."

Mr Glenister will be joining fellow fundraisers, including six runners who will be dressed in Mr Men and Little Miss costumes.

He took part in the marathon last year and said the experience does not compare with anything else.

He said: "It was just absolutely fantastic.

"Anything I have achieved so far, golfing or otherwise, was outshone. The others members of the club were outstanding in their support and contributions. We had a board up in the club house for people to sponsor me on. We managed to raise £4,000."

Mr Glenister chose the cancer charity after his friend was diagnosed with the disease two years ago.

He then found out a member of the golf club had a granddaughter who was one of the youngest children ever diagnosed with Leukaemia.

He said: "I heard about the children's charity and it just sounded like a great cause."
