THOUSANDS of visitors to Worcester were transported back in time this weekend as re-enactors paid homage to a host of historical events.
The rich history associated with the Faithful City was brought to life at the Living History spectacular on Saturday.
Wartime re-enactors clad in stunning authentic costumes from various time periods spent the day entertaining crowds with their stands, knowledge and impressive displays in the Guildhall.
A 17th Century wedding, Second World War American soldiers, a 1940s French caf and French, British and German soldiers from throughout history made it a memorable day. The Sealed Knot society also laid a wreath in the Cathedral for the Duke of Hamilton.
He commanded the Scots Royalist Army at the Battle of Worcester and later died from his wounds at the Commandery. He is buried under the Cathedral altar.
One of the organisers and Worcester re-enactor, Richard Delingpole, said: "It has been a fantastic day so far and people have been streaming through the doors which is great. There is so much for everyone to see and we are glad to say it has been a really big success again this year. People love it which makes it all worthwhile."
Mayor Coun Aubrey Tarbuck, who opened the event, said: "It was an absolutely wonderful day with so many impressive things to see. An event the city should be proud of."
The history enthusiasts from across the county were joined by comrades from all over the UK, who all travelled to take part in the popular event.
Mr Delingpole added: "It's great that our friends and fellow re-enactors can come to Worcester and enjoy a fantastic day with our residents.
"They are all really enthusiastic about what they do and it's great to get together and put on a really impressive event like today."
