A TRIAL to assess the impact of making Church Street one-way has been requested by Great Malvern Town Centre Partnership.
Members want to improve the pedestrian environment and believe the only way to do it is by reducing the number of cars.
They are asking Worcestershire County Council to carry out a three-week trial - one week with traffic downhill only, one week uphill and one week with the road completely closed to traffic.
In the past, the council has not been keen on the idea, saying there is no agreement among traders.
Adrian Ward, of the Great Malvern Association of Trade, said the only way to see which was the best solution was to have a trial.
He argued that something should be done to improve the town centre if Malvern was to retain employers like QinetiQ.
