Some of the vanished railway lines and stations around the Malvern area are highlighted in a new book.

Bromsgrove to Gloucester is the latest in an extensive series by Vic Mitchell and Keith Smith, chronicling Britain's railway history.

The book is copiously illustrated with old maps and photographs, showing whole lines that have now vanished, as well as forgotten stations on lines that are still in use.

For example, there are now no stations on the line between Worcester and Ashchurch, near Tewkesbury, but the book contains pictures of the stations at Pirton, Eckington, Defford and Bredon.

The line that ran from Malvern to Tewkesbury is one that has gone entirely.

This one included stations at Malvern Wells, Upton and Ripple.

Bromsgrove to Gloucester is published by Middleton Press at £14.99.

It is available from all good bookshops, including Beacon Books, Malvern.
