THE Worcester Infirmary Cup competition committee presented Upton Surgery Physiotherapy Unit with a Kettler MX1 Ergometer, in memory of past competition secretary Norman H Simmons, who died last August, aged 70.
Norman will be remembered as 'Mr Infirmary Cup' and the committee felt it appropriate that specialist equipment be presented to Upton Surgery, of which Norman himself was a patient as he recovered from several leg injuries.
The state-of-the-art Ergometer, valued at £800, with its computerised controls, is capable of individualising exercise programmes, measuring heart rate, speed, distance and calorie count. It will greatly help towards the recuperation and recovery of patient injuries.
Additional rehabilitation equipment valued around £400 will be purchased by the committee over the next month to further help the surgery as they provide a high level of patient care in the area.
Fiona Lucas, physiotherapist of Upton Surgery, with practice manager Phillipa White and Dr George Wilson are presented with the Ergometer by competition secretary Marvyn Amphlett, alongside chairman Eric Bullock and president Jon Appleton.
The Worcester Infirmary Cup competition, formed in 1921, still runs a Sunday Junior and Minor Cup football knock-out competition alongside the midweek Senior Cup competition, which attracts semi-professional clubs, including last season's winners Malvern Town.
