MALVERN Angels played their penultimate league fixture on Sunday against Chesterfield and completed the late head coach Mark Edwards' plan of winning the West Midlands Four league title.
Pete Williams, who has taken over the coaching of the Angels, toasted his colleague following the game and dedicated this season to him.
Chesterfield were only able to field a team of ten players but travelled to Malvern knowing that they would be given another game to remember.
The Angels began with their usual trademark game plan with the forwards taking the kick and passing swift ball along the back-line, allowing two quick tries to be run-in.
Things became a bit untidy for the next ten minutes but, after a firm and frank discussion from coach Pete Williams the Angels pulled their socks up and managed to generate a 45-0 margin at the half-time whistle.
The second-half saw little change in the Angels' game plan but they were thwarted at many breakdowns with some creative refereeing. Obstruction by the ref allowed Chesterfield to become only the second league team to score against the Angels this season.
The Angels responded to the injustice by running in a responsive try and settling the fixture with an impressive ten tries and seven conversions.
Squad players for this fixture were: prop Lynsey Secomb, hooker Rachel Brannelly, prop Claire Labrano, lock Ali Douglas, lock Mel Dawson, scrum-half Caroline Hardy, fly-half Deb Danby (two tries and seven conversions), centre Lou Saum (four tries), winger Laura Bradford (one try), full-back Layni Madsen (two tries), lock Lorna Courier, lock Sarah Moorhead, winger Sam Jones (one try), prop Abi Rhodes and centre Babs Madsen.
Players of the game was awarded to Layni Madsen and Lyndsey Secomb.
The final league game for the Angels is a home fixture against Eccleshall on Sunday, March 5.
